Made for Mutuality : Jesus Creed Why is it awesome? Scot Mcknight is the blogger/theologian and he writes about women in ministry in that post. He’s a man. That’s why he’s awesome. I love it when men take up the egalitarian banner and fight for women who are not being allowed to exercise certain gifts in church.

This post written awhile ago is also awesome for the same reason. Ben Witherington is also a blogger/theologian who is an egalitarian and argues for that position through biblical exegesis. Read the comments for a very interesting discussion.

NT Wright also has an article on women in ministry arguing for the egalitarian point of view.

I love it when men come out to take on this issue.

When men argue for the complimentarian position, they are labeled them chauvinist. When women argue for the egalitarian position, they are labeled feminist. Not that those two groups of people do not have valid arguments. It’s also not that those two groups of people should not be allowed to talk. Their point of view is valid and must be considered. The problem is, complimentarian men will never listen to egalitarian women.

So what is left? Complimentarian women and egalitarian men. Complimentarian women cannot speak out in this issue against egalitarian men. Their position prohibits them from doing so.

Thus the only argument left is between women and between men. I would think that if the complimentarian men were to become egalitarians, the complimentarian women would have to follow suit.

Thus the key group of people is the egalitarian men. They are the only ones who can truly speak out about their position and not be “judged.” They are the ones who need to further the egalitarian position. The burden is on them to really make this issue known and conquer it in our churches. They are in the unique social position within our church to gain women equality in vocational ministry.

You, once again, put up a strawmen with your caricatures of what complementarians are like. Mind you, I’m egalitarian, but you, along with Mary Ann, and definitely Greg Boyd, are treating the issue uncharitably.
That said, I got nuttin’ on NT Wright

  2. I agree with you, Daniel. It’s so powerful when egalitarian men speak up. Sad that egalitarian women will not be heard.
