Soda is the new Cigarette
Soda is bad for you… almost as bad as cigarettes are.
I can’t believe how many people have told me, “I don’t drink soda,” just like we would say, “I don’t smoke.” With a little disdain in the voice, like “you drink soda?…. ewww.”
And soda is addicting! I get through my morning with a nap, and I get through my afternoons with a soda typically. Without that soda, it’s TOUGH.

Your response is just like the cigarette smoker’s response to being told that cigarettes are bad for you ;).

soda is nowhere near as bad as cigarettes. cigarettes are the number cause of preventable health related morbidity in the nation as well as a major risk factor for the top 4 causes of death in the nation. while soda may contribute to the obesity epidemic and diabetes it is nowhere NEAR the cigarette risk.
you are now cleared to drink soda without guilt.

You know, I was quite surprised to find that green, white, red/black tea, as well as oolong tea, all come from the same tea leaves— Camellia sinensis . The difference lies in the method, order, and length of processing. And interestingly, the chemicals in green tea that are attributed to support of good health are preserved in the other forms as well. I enjoy and support drinking tea, although the amount of caffeine in some can rival coffee.
I also support drinking soda in moderation. It’s not only enjoyable, and gives the short-term ability to concentrate while tired that caffeine provides, but it also provides a brief energy boost from the high sugar content that most other drinks do not. And while it definitely isn’t good for you, I would hardly say that it’s bad for you. Also, you have to make a distinction between chemical dependancy (addiction) and psychological anticipation (conditioning). The two are quite different. I bet you could make it through the day without soda if you learned to anticipate doing something else in the afternoons—like a brief walk outside or something.

The “caffeine” in tea is actually not as much caffeine as a similar isomer from the same family of phenols. Phenols are known to combat many oral disease causing bacteria so yes green tea is extremely good for ya! One cup of tea should have around 60 mg of caffeine like substance while a common cup of coffee is about 100-150 mg. Gosh I’m such a dork.
