“open door policy”

Does the “open door policy” for determining God’s will work?

I used to think that you look for where God is opening doors, where he’s already working, and you can see what God’s will is. I think now that this method is too simple. Somethings seem to have a lot of open doors and then they shut.

I’m looking for the direction of where God is leading our church, and I see a lot of doors opening and I am inclined to think God is working in a positive direction… but then again I’m not so sure… because I’ve seen the open door policy fail in the past.

  1. my old college pastor PT(Pastor Tony) had once said that there’s no such thing as opened door. The apostle Paul got stoned and persecuted in almost all the cities he went to…he said that he’ll considered that as close doors!! I wouldn’t go as far as PT does tho. I certainly thinks that sometimes God does swing the door wide open, but we can’t count on it and we shouldn’t stop going forward in the face of ‘opposition’ or seemingly closed doors. If the door is not completely shut, it’s not closed.

  2. I think open doors should just be confirmations of what God is already showing you. If a solid wall swings open in your face that’s a sign I think. But you don’t stop just because there appears to be “closed doors” or walls everywhere.

  3. dude did you get married?

  4. I don’t think there is a fool-proof way to determine God’s will.  There is always a certain degree of faith involved.

  5. I don’t think that an opportunity or a need necessarily means calling. agree with the above that it takes faith and being certain of where He’s leading regardless of the circumstances.

  6. i agree with much of the above, especially with Cindy’s comment. sometimes God’s will is so elusive and hard to discover. i think that the process in discovering it is just as important as getting there. i will have to say though, closed doors make making decisions much easier! (although sometimes disheartening).

    so confusing sometimes i agree
